JOB SUMMARY: Senior Mechanical HVAC Engineer

IDS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Mechanical Engineer for immediate employment for the Irvine, CA office. The Mechanical Engineer will assist in the design of HVAC and mechanical systems for high performance buildings within multiple sectors including Federal, Justice, Themed Entertainment and commercial building projects. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Load calculations
  • Equipment selection
  • Analyze equipment energy use for optimizing systems selection
  • Develop system narratives (writing, organizing the document, develop images)
  • Develop robust controls sequence of operations
  • CAD/BIM design
  • Energy auditing and ECM development
  • Coordinate mechanical system design with architects and other consultants
  • Write specifications
  • Review own work to ensure accuracy (rather than depend on peer review)
  • Interact and work with diverse set of clients and subcontractors
  • Desired Skills and Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of solid MEP design experience within a consulting or design-build firm
  • Experience with ASHRAE 90.1, 62.1 and 55
  • Experience with California Title 24 Energy Code
  • Experience with BIM and AutoCAD/Revit
  • Experience with sustainable design
  • Experience with Design Build and other Alternative Delivery practices
  • Experience in mechanical design and / or energy project development
  • Excellent communication skills: articulate, assertive and confident
  • Creative thinker with effective teamwork skills

  • CEM designation
