Taif Airport
Master Plan Saudi Arabia
IDS Consulting was commissioned to develop the master plan and architectural design for a new terminal and ancillary buildings at a greenfield airport site for the Atiaf Consortium. Our design approach balances functionality and identity, offering a compelling architectural expression that enhances the experience for both arriving and departing passengers.
At both the macro and micro scales, the design is cohesive and intentional, creating a strong sense of place rooted in the cultural and natural context of Taif. Inspired by the city’s mountainous terrain and winding roads, the terminal features a sloping roof form that echoes the cascading contours of the surrounding landscape, seamlessly integrating the building with its environment.
A sequence of linear roof lights accentuates this slope, tracing the path of the passenger journey from landside to airside, while bathing interior spaces in natural light.
Islamic geometric patterns define the terminal’s architectural identity. These motifs form the facade of the Mashrabiya, a high-level screen that conceals mechanical plant equipment and extends along the Hajj pavilion. This treatment continues along the pier’s airside façade, providing both solar shading and visual articulation.
Progression through the terminal is marked by a refined scale of geometric patterns, applied to a series of portals or gateways that guide and orient passengers. Sustainability is integral to the design—photovoltaic panels are integrated into the sloped roof, harnessing solar energy and contributing to the airport’s environmental goals.
Tabuk Region (NEOM)
Study and Design of Multiple Roads Saudi Arabia
IDS Consulting conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the existing transportation infrastructure along the Red Sea coast, with a focus on improving traffic flow and regional connectivity. The scope included the design of a new highway bypass to divert north-south traffic, particularly heavy trucks servicing Duba Harbor and the cement factory, away from congested urban areas.
Key components of the bypass included:
2 major interchanges
5 new intersections
9 newly designed bridges
In addition to the bypass, IDS Consulting designed six coastal bridges to connect five new resort towns with the main coastal highway, enhancing access near Al Wajh, Duba, Umlij, Haql, and Qyal.
Through the adoption of innovative bridge designs and advanced engineering methods, IDS achieved a 30% reduction in bridge cost per square meter, delivering significant value to the client without compromising performance or durability.
Environmental and hydrological conditions were rigorously analyzed. This included:
Topographic assessment of the terrain
Seasonal watercourse and scour analysis
Integration of data into hydraulic models for culverts and bridges
These measures ensured long-term resilience and safety in a climate-sensitive region prone to flash flooding and seasonal variations.
